Nirmalya Roy, Ph.D. is Co-Founder and COO of AI Sense, Professor of Information Systems at UMBC, and Director of the MPSC Lab and CYPRESS Center. His research over the past five years has focused on three converging domains: edge AI inference on constrained hardware, multimodal sensing for contactless health monitoring, and multi-agent autonomous systems for defense and industrial applications. On the edge AI and robotics front, Dr. Roy's lab has produced systems for cooperative perception, adaptive communication under network constraints, asymmetric cost-aware robot navigation, and heterogeneous multi-robot co-simulation — with recent publications at ICML, ICRA, IROS, IEEE PerCom, ACM MobiSys, and WoWMoM. His team is Co-PI on a $68M DEVCOM Army Research Lab program advancing AI autonomy for national defense, and leads the NSF-funded TRACE multi-agent UAV/UGV testbed for resilient operations in denied environments. At AI Sense, Dr. Roy leads the scientific and product strategy for edge AI platforms that operate under acoustic interference, connectivity constraints, and real-world outdoor conditions — translating MPSC Lab research into deployable systems across agriculture, defense, and industrial automation.
Bipendra Basnyat, P.E., Ph.D.-"Engineer Turned Farmer" is Co-Founder and CEO/CTO of AI Sense and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UMBC, specializing in AI-driven edge systems for contested and resource-constrained environments. He is PI of NSF SBIR Phase I Award #2507344 (AI Sense LLC), validating edge-deployed computer vision and cyber physical system on constrained low resource in outdoor, environments . With over two decades of experience, he has led AI/ML initiatives at Deloitte, Xerox, and UnitedHealth Group, and developed FloodBot — an NSF-recognized urban flood risk management system integrating multimodal sensing and conversational AI. His A-Square Farm (https://asquare.farm/) operation serves as a living field laboratory for AI Sense's edge AI platform, validating autonomous sensing and inference systems under real-world outdoor deployment conditions.
Snehalraj serves as Technical Lead & Founding Engineer at AI SENSE at overseeing the full technology stack across backend, frontend, and edge systems. He drives the integration of AI/ML models with cloud and hardware infrastructure, ensuring seamless system performance. With a strong focus on scalability and innovation, Snehalraj manages all core technical operations that power AI SENSE’s solutions.
Pahal is a Project/Product Management Intern at AI SENSE, supports coordination across technical and business teams. She assist in tracking deliverables, aligning timelines, and documenting project milestones and bridges product requirements with execution to ensure smooth progress on AI SENSE initiatives. In addition, Pahal also serves as the lead intern coordinator, helping organize tasks and communication across the intern team.
Elijah is the lead hardware engineer at AI SENSE, architecting the IoT infrastructure and sensor networks that power our systems. He leads design, encasing, and manufacturing of custom hardware components for field deployment. His expertise ensures rugged, reliable devices that integrate seamlessly with AI SENSE’s software and cloud platforms.
Nirupam Roy, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, and Director of the iCoSMoS research lab, where he advances wireless networking, mobile computing, and acoustic sensing. His research spans IoT, localization, and soundfield control — expertise directly relevant to adaptive wildlife deterrence. Dr. Roy serves as Principal Investigator on the UMD subcontract under NSF SBIR Phase I Award #2507344, providing technical guidance on the design of acoustic deterrence systems for AI SENSE LLC’s AI CoExist platform.
Anuradha Ravi, Ph.D., is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where she mentors graduate students and conducts research in edge AI, federated learning, and networked systems. Dr. Ravi serves as a voluntary Senior Research Advisor to AI SENSE LLC, guiding research direction, quality control, and R&D strategy to shape the company’s innovation pipeline and future research outlook.
Travis Gallo, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Urban Ecology and Conservation in the Department of Environmental Science & Technology at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research examines how urban environments influence species distributions, populations, and behaviors — work that sits at the heart of human–wildlife coexistence. Dr. Gallo serves as a part-time Senior Consultant to AI SENSE LLC, providing expert guidance on wildlife ecology and ensuring that the AI CoExist platform’s deterrence strategies are grounded in evidence-based conservation science.
John Jamison is our primary farm partner and flagship field site — a 77+ acre row-crop operation in Dickerson, Maryland. He’s the inventor of the CropDogs (C) approach to wildlife deterrence, and his hands-on experience with working dogs and deer pressure sits at the center of AI SENSE’s field-tested approach.
As Farm Integrator and farmer-innovator, John partners with AI SENSE across product design, field strategy, and go-to-market — refining the dog dispatch protocol, serving as lead farmer for our field trial and system design, and shaping the commercialization path as a business-development partner and inventor who helps define our product roadmap.
Bill Bien serves as Strategic Advisor and Business Consultant to AI SENSE, Inc., guiding the company on commercialization strategy and investor readiness. He brings direct operating experience scaling deep-tech ventures: as an early operator at Forever Oceans, he helped take the company from prototype to $5M in first-year sales and supported a $45M capital raise during the 2022–23 downturn. Bill currently advises Conservation X Labs and serves as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator, bringing that same commercialization and fundraising discipline to AI SENSE as it moves from field validation toward market.
